About Stacy Yochum
I am a retired attorney who returned to art after many years away. I began drawing and painting with my illustrator grandfather when I was a child. I continued making art through college, but I set it aside to pursue my career, raise a family and to do lots of theater and music on the side.
Since returning to art, I have studied at the Yellow Barn Studio at Glen Echo Park in Maryland, at the Art League of Alexandria, Virginia, and online with teachers from around the world, including Lucie Duclos, Jane Davies, Zoey Frank and Ingrid Christensen. My work has been exhibited in juried shows at the Yellow Barn, the Art League of Alexandria, the Rockville Art League, and the Montgomery Art Association and has won several awards, including Best in Show.
I love working in a variety of media because each medium inspires in different ways. Juicy oil paint yields glorious texture and layers of color. Collage and mixed media call for a sense of whimsy combined with compositional play. It’s all about the exploration. It doesn’t always work, but when it does, it’s a glorious feeling.
